Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo, describing him as a player with “unbelievable qualities,” ahead of his anticipated debut for the club.
Semenyo officially joined the Premier League champions from AFC Bournemouth on Friday, January 9, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
“Manchester City are delighted to confirm the signing of Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth,” the club said in an official statement.
Speaking ahead of City’s FA Cup clash against Exeter City, Guardiola highlighted the striker’s versatility and Premier League experience.
“Everybody knows his qualities. He was extraordinary at Bournemouth and can play both sides. He uses both feet unbelievably. He can play as a striker too, with his pace. He knows the Premier League. Many clubs wanted him but he decided to join us. All I can say is thank you to him and we’re pleased for the next years,” Guardiola said.
The City manager also confirmed that Semenyo will be selected for the Exeter City match on Saturday, though it remains undecided whether he will start or come off the bench.
“He [Antoine Semenyo] will be selected [against Exeter]. I don’t know if he’ll start, but he’ll be selected,” Guardiola added.
Semenyo’s move marks a major step in his career and provides Manchester City with a versatile attacking option as they continue their push for domestic and European glory this season.
