“Only One Player Is Good Enough!” — Mohammed Polo Tears Into GPL Quality

It’s a brutal verdict from a legend.

1978 AFCON winner Mohammed Polo has launched a scathing attack on the standard of the Ghana Premier League, declaring that just one locally-based player is worthy of representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

And his name?

Benjamin Asare.

Speaking after watching the recent Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium, Polo did not mince words.

“Apart from Benjamin Asare, no Ghana Premier League player is quality enough to be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” he declared on Connect FM.

“The quality of the Ghana Premier League has gone down drastically. I watched the Super Clash the other time and didn’t enjoy it because the players weren’t good enough.”

Then came the stinging blow.

“Despite the red card to Hearts of Oak in the game, Asante Kotoko couldn’t create anything significant — and it all went down to quality.”

A damning assessment of Ghana’s elite division from a man who once dazzled the continent.

With Black Stars head coach Otto Addo set to announce his final squad on June 1, Polo’s comments are sure to spark fierce debate across the country.
