Leading Ghanaian football agency Xplosion Sports Management is taking bold steps to create new international pathways for young African footballers following strategic meetings with clubs from the Saudi Pro League at the recent World Football Summit.
Founder and CEO Marvin Akowuah-Dantey engaged with officials from leading Saudi clubs including Al Nassr, Al-Kholood, Al-Qadsiah, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli Saudi to discuss potential opportunities for African talents within the Saudi Under-21 Elite League.
The discussions focused on creating structured development routes for promising African players to gain professional exposure in one of football’s fastest-growing markets.
Opening New Doors for African Talent
Speaking after the summit, Marvin Akowuah-Dantey highlighted the importance of building structured global pathways for young players.
“Africa has an abundance of raw football talent, but many young players lack access to structured professional pathways. At Xplosion Sports Management, our mission is to bridge that gap by connecting African talent with opportunities in emerging football markets.”
According to Akowuah-Dantey, Saudi Arabia’s growing investment in football infrastructure and youth competitions makes the Saudi U21 Elite League an attractive platform for development.
“Saudi Arabia is not only investing in senior football but also building strong youth structures. The Under-21 Elite League provides a competitive and professional environment where young African players can develop and showcase their potential.”
Strategic Engagement with Saudi Clubs
The meetings with Saudi clubs at the World Football Summit demonstrated a growing interest in African talent within the region.
Akowuah-Dantey described the conversations as positive and forward-looking.
“Our discussions with clubs such as Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al-Kholood were extremely encouraging.
There is genuine interest in identifying young African players who can develop within their U21 systems and eventually progress to the senior level.”
He emphasized that football agencies have a responsibility not just to facilitate transfers but to ensure players move into environments that support long-term career growth.
“At Xplosion Sports Management we believe representation is not just about deals; it is about building careers. The objective is to place players in systems that will nurture them both on and off the pitch.”
Asia Emerging as a Key Football Destination
With football in Asia expanding rapidly, Akowuah-Dantey believes African players must begin to see the region as a strategic opportunity.
“For many years the focus has been solely on Europe, but the global football landscape is evolving. Asia, particularly Saudi Arabia, is investing heavily in football development and infrastructure, and that opens new doors for African players.”
He added that Xplosion Sports Management will continue strengthening its international relationships to ensure young African players can access opportunities across different football markets.
“This is part of our long-term vision to create global pathways for African talent. We want young players to have multiple routes to professional football, and Asia is becoming an important part of that journey.”
