Marc-Andre ter Stegen has become a father for the third time, welcoming his first daughter with his new partner Ona Silares while attempting to rebuild his football career during a loan spell at Ajax.
The Barcelona goalkeeper announced the birth on Instagram, sharing several photographs with Silares and their daughter, Sophie. The baby was born on Sunday, according to German newspaper Bild.
The photographs showed the wider family together, with Ter Stegen’s two sons also pictured alongside him, Silares and their new sister. Ben, six, and two-year-old Tom are from the German goalkeeper’s previous marriage to Daniela.
Sophie’s arrival comes roughly a year after Ter Stegen made his relationship with Silares public. He announced the new partnership in June 2025, a short time after confirming his separation from Daniela.
Ter Stegen and Daniela began their relationship in 2012 and married in 2017. They announced their separation in March 2025 after several years of marriage, during which they had their two sons.
Despite the split, Ter Stegen has previously said he remains committed to maintaining a positive relationship with Daniela for the sake of their children. He explained that they live close to one another, allowing him to see Ben and Tom every day.
The family news arrives as the 34-year-old goalkeeper seeks greater stability in his professional life. A series of injuries have disrupted his career and kept him out of involvement with Germany at the 2026 World Cup.
Ter Stegen remains under contract with Barcelona until 2028 but joined Ajax on loan on 4 August. The move has given him an opportunity to regain regular playing time and recover his form after a difficult period on the sidelines.
His start in Amsterdam has been encouraging. Ajax remained unbeaten in their first three matches with Ter Stegen involved, while the goalkeeper recorded a clean sheet in the club’s league victory over PEC Zwolle.
The German is therefore entering a new phase both privately and on the pitch. He has welcomed his third child and first daughter, while hoping his spell with Ajax can help him restore his standing and performances at the highest level.
