Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has joined Libyan champions Al-Swehly on a three-year contract, with the agreement including an option to extend it by a further season.
The 28-year-old completed the move as a free agent after leaving Spanish club Real Oviedo at the end of the 2025/26 season. His departure from the Spanish side paved the way for a new challenge in North Africa, where he will join Al-Swehly’s preparations for domestic and continental competition.
Al-Swehly confirmed Sibo’s arrival with a video released through the club’s official channels. The Libyan champions welcomed the Ghana international as he begins the next stage of his career following his spell in Spain.
Sibo had been linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig club Genclerbirligi, but that proposed transfer fell through during the final stages of negotiations. He will instead continue his career in Libya after agreeing terms with Al-Swehly.
The midfielder is expected to play a significant part in Al-Swehly’s plans as the club prepares for its CAF Champions League campaign. The Libyan side will begin its continental challenge against Zanzibar-based KVZ in the preliminary round.
Sibo arrives at his new club after representing Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played in all four matches contested by the Black Stars during the tournament and recorded 249 minutes of action.
He started Ghana’s goalless draw with England and also appeared in the matches against Panama, Croatia and Colombia. His involvement across the four World Cup fixtures underlined his importance to the national side before his move to Al-Swehly.
The transfer gives Sibo a fresh opportunity after his spell with Real Oviedo ended and follows the collapse of the proposed switch to Genclerbirligi. Al-Swehly secured his services without a transfer fee, with the contract set to run for three years and the possibility of a fourth season if the extension option is taken up.
His arrival is expected to add strength to the club’s midfield as Al-Swehly targets success in Libya and seeks to progress in the CAF Champions League. The first test of that continental campaign will come against KVZ in the preliminary round, with Sibo now part of the squad preparing for the tie.
For Sibo, the move represents a new chapter after his international involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and his departure from Real Oviedo. Al-Swehly will hope the Ghana midfielder’s experience can help the club compete on both the domestic and continental stages.
