Stade Rennais announce the signing of Ghana defender Alidu Seidu

French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais have announced the signing of Ghana defender Alidu Seidu.

The 23-year-old versatile joins from fellow French top flight side Clermont Foot on a reported €11m deal.

The Black Stars defender has now completed his mandatory medical checks after returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where he did not feature much.

He has signed a four year contract that will run until 2028.

Stade Rennais announced his signing on Monday night via a statement on social media accompanied by a video.

“𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗱𝘂 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝗱𝘂 𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝗲𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝗶𝗿 ✊

“The Ghanaian defender joins SRFC until 2028. Degemer mat Alidu!”

The versatile defender, capable of playing as a centre-back or as a right-back, could conceivably make his debut in the home game against Montpellier on 3rd February.

Alidu will be a welcome addition to an ailing Rennais side currently languishing in 10th position in Ligue 1 and seeking consistency that will drive them towards the European places.

The defender played just 18 minutes for Ghana at AFCON as the Black Stars crashed out at the group phase for the second successive tournament, drawing widespread criticism and the sacking of coach Chris Hughton.
