Ex-Ghana FA chief Lepowura Alhaji M.N.D Jawula has taken a stinging potshot at Francis Oti Akenteng for criticizing his endorsement of a potential appointment of a technical director for the Black Stars.
The former FA boss is one of such high-profile personalities who have backed calls for the appointment of a technical head for the team ahead of the Black Stars potential involvement in next year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Akenteng, who happens to be the current FA technical director, reacted angrily to such calls with fears his competence could be called into question.
But Lepowura Jawula has not taken kindly to the backlash by describing Akenteng’s outburst as surprising and distasteful.
“I only asked for a top technical support that’s all I said,†Jawula told Radio XYZ
“If people have discussed technical directorship and they want to equate it, that’s up to them but I have asked for a clear technical support for Akwasi Appiah that would help him to succeed.
“I think I am competent in certain fields of human endeavor but if I am going into any event and know the level is beyond me there’s no problem seeking for assistance in order to excel.
“People take up second degree from reality and that is up to them.
“I heard Oti Akenteng surprisingly and arrogantly saying “we won’t agree, we are not going to get there” and I was so shocked in his response to the issue.
“I have been there before, I have been serving the GFA, CAF and FIFA for close to two decades and as a Ghanaian if I have something to offer I just offer it without any interest whatsoever and it’s as simple as that.
“I have seen it all in this job. I have commissioned matches and attended tournaments and know what it takes to perform well in competitions of this nature.
“If the FA in its wisdom thinks they don’t need it that’s up to them.â€
Ghana football has been embroiled in a massive debate since last week after reports in the local media claimed authorities was tossing with the idea of appointing a technical director to aid current Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah at the World Cup.
