Hearts of Oak set sights on 2026/27 trophy sweep after fresh start

Accra Hearts of Oak are targeting success in every competition they enter during the 2026/27 season as the club begins a new era under head coach Nebojsa Kapor.

The Ghanaian side are determined to return to the top of domestic football after several disappointing campaigns, with club communications director Kwame Opare Addo saying the team’s ambitions include challenging for every available trophy.

Hearts of Oak have not won the Ghana Premier League since they were crowned champions under Samuel Boadu in the 2020/21 campaign. The club now hopes a change in direction, led by Kapor, can help restore its fortunes.

Opare Addo said the priority was to deliver results that would satisfy majority shareholder Togbe Afede XIV while also bringing supporters together behind the team.

“Togbe Afede XIV already has money, and what we can do is make him happy by winning games,” he said.

“I know he always wants to see the fans unite and come together to support the team.

“So what we can do is win games, which will make him happy and compete for every trophy that is there to be won as a club.”

The comments underline the scale of the challenge facing Hearts of Oak as they prepare for the new campaign. The club’s immediate objective is to translate its stated ambition into consistent performances and victories across the season.

The Phobians are also expected to remain active in the transfer market before the window closes. Opare Addo revealed that Hearts are assessing potential additions and anticipate bringing in about five players before the start of the campaign.

“I know that there are players we are looking at, and so we will sign about five players going into the season,” he added.

Those arrivals are expected to strengthen Kapor’s squad as he takes charge of a team seeking to compete for honours again. Hearts of Oak’s plans are centred on building a group capable of mounting a sustained challenge rather than allowing another season to pass without silverware.

Their first opportunity to begin that revival will come in the opening round of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign. Hearts of Oak will host Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The fixture will provide Kapor with his first league test in charge and will mark the start of the club’s attempt to end its wait for another Ghana Premier League title while competing for every other trophy available.
