Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is set to receive a brand-new car after being named the Black Stars’ Best Domestic Player, recognising his significant contribution to Ghana’s national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The reward was announced by Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku at the association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress on Thursday. The event was held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram and attended by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.

The prize package is valued at $38,000 and forms part of the recognition for Asare’s performances while representing Ghana. The 33-year-old goalkeeper played a prominent role as the Black Stars reached the knockout stage of the World Cup.

Asare was the only Ghana Premier League player selected in Ghana’s World Cup squad. He featured in three of the team’s four matches during the tournament, underlining his importance to the side.

One of his notable performances came against England, when he kept a clean sheet against the eventual bronze medallists. That result and his displays throughout the competition strengthened his claim to the domestic-player award.

The goalkeeper began his career with Great Olympics before joining Accra Hearts of Oak. He is expected to continue as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper when the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season begins.

His award comes after a World Cup campaign in which Ghana progressed to the knockout stage, with Asare providing consistency behind the Black Stars’ defence. His selection was also notable because he was the sole player from the domestic top flight included in the final squad.

The Ghana Football Association’s announcement confirms the value of the vehicle and the national recognition attached to Asare’s achievement. It also highlights the contribution of a Ghana Premier League-based player to the Black Stars’ run at the tournament.

Asare will now be presented with the new car as part of the award package, while his performances are expected to keep him at the centre of Accra Hearts of Oak’s plans for the forthcoming league campaign.
