The Ghana Football Association says steps have been taken to tackle concerns over refereeing standards in the Ghana Premier League.
Referees Manager Alex Kotey disclosed that structured measures are in place to deal with underperforming officials.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast, he dismissed claims that referees deliberately favour certain clubs.
Kotey acknowledged that mistakes occur but insisted they are part of the human nature of the profession.
“It is very difficult to agree or to generalise that the referees are biased. I would want to rather say that they did not have a good day. Just like any club will get a bad day, it is so with our referees. They are humans,” he said.
He further explained that the association has introduced internal mechanisms to identify and manage officials who fall below expected standards.
“In our own small way, from the referees department, we have put in a lot of structures that we are trying to pluck some of them out, but it’s been quite slow because we need to be tactful.
“This year alone, we have put some of the referees on ice due to errors in decision-making. So, we put you on ice, put you through some training and then if you are okay, the referees committee reinstate you,” Kotey stated.
