AS Roma and Leicester City played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final first leg match played on Thursday night.
In a nail-biting affair at the King Power Stadium, AS Roma controlled the opening half, in which they took the lead before Brendan Rodgers’ team took charge of the second to equalise and will be disappointed they never got the winner.
The Foxes, enjoying the noise from the crowd, started the match brightly and looked the most likely to take the lead early on.
Jose Mourinho’s side however grew into the match and managed to get the opener in the 15th minute from a free-flowing move when Nicola Zalewski played in captain Lorenzo Pellegrini for a smooth low finish underneath Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel.
The hosts were the better side in the second period and deservedly equalised after the hour mark when Ademola Lookman bundled in a cross from Harvey Barnes which took a deflection off Gianluca Mancini.
Kelechi Iheanacho could have given the hosts a winner late on but perfect goal-keeping and desperate defender denied him twice.
In the end, the match ended in a draw, and will be decided next week in the return match at the Stadio Olimpico.
In another match Feyenhoord saw off Marseille 3-2 in a thoroughly entertaining clash in the Netherlands.
The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead after just 20 minutes much to the joy of the home crowd.
Cryriel Dessers gave them the lead after 18 minutes before Luis Sinisterra doubled their lead two minutes later.
Bamba Dieng brought the visitors back into the game after 28 minutes with a fine finish, and they leveled five minutes from half-time through Gerson.
Feyernhood however regained their lead a minute into the second half, and despite both teams creating a number of chances, it proved the winner.
