Hearts of Oak goalkeeper and skipper Benjamin Asare has revealed that Asante Kotoko approached him to sign him from Great Olympics at the end of the 2023/24 season.
However, despite Kotoko’s efforts, the deal fell through, leading to his eventual move to Hearts of Oak.
Speaking to 3Sports, Asare says he is unsure what caused the breakdown in talks.
“I was ready to move to any team that was willing to offer me a deal. Honestly, I don’t know what made that deal [to join Kotoko] fall through but what was available was Hearts of Oak.”
Asare believes the reason for the failed transfer lies with the managements of both his former club and Asante Kotoko.
“They needed to speak to Asante Kotoko’s management before coming back to me but I don’t know what happened.”
Asare has been one of Hearts of Oak’s standout performers this term, keeping multiple clean sheets in the Ghana Premier League, including one against Asante Kotoko in the Super Clash.
