Carlos Queiroz has been reappointed as head coach of Ghana’s senior men’s national team, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirming that the Portuguese coach will lead the Black Stars into the next phase of their international programme.
The agreement between Queiroz and the GFA was announced in Accra on 2 September 2026. His new mandate will begin with the upcoming international window, although the association has not yet provided further details about its length or the full schedule of fixtures involved.
Queiroz’s previous spell in charge ended a few weeks ago after he led Ghana at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup. Following discussions between the coach, the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, all parties agreed that he should take on a fresh coaching mandate with the national team.
The decision means Queiroz will continue in charge of the Black Stars after the conclusion of the assignment under which he oversaw Ghana’s participation at the World Cup. The GFA said the new arrangement forms part of the next stage of the team’s programme.
In its announcement, the association highlighted Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and familiarity with the Black Stars. Those qualities, it said, put him in a strong position to guide Ghana as the team begins what it described as a new chapter.
The GFA has not released additional information about the structure of the mandate, the specific objectives attached to it or the fixtures that will make up the forthcoming international window. It said more details about Queiroz’s new role and the Black Stars’ upcoming programme would be announced in due course.
For now, the focus will be on the continuation of the work already carried out under Queiroz and on preparing Ghana for its next international commitments. The association said it and the coach would now turn their attention to building a successful new phase for the country on the international stage.
Queiroz’s return gives the Black Stars continuity at the start of that phase, following the end of his earlier mandate after the FIFA World Cup. The GFA’s decision reflects its belief that his knowledge of the squad and experience at international level make him the right person to lead the team forward.
