The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for the Portuguese coach to remain in charge of the Black Stars.
Queiroz’s previous mandate, which covered Ghana’s participation at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, came to an end a few weeks ago. However, after discussions involving the coach, the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, all three parties have agreed a new coaching arrangement.
The new mandate will begin during the next international window, as Ghana moves into the next stage of its national team programme.
The GFA said Queiroz’s international experience, technical knowledge and familiarity with the Black Stars were important considerations in the decision to retain him. The association believes those qualities will be valuable as Ghana prepares for its forthcoming international commitments.
Queiroz’s immediate responsibility will be to lead the Black Stars’ preparations for their next assignments, including the next phase of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Portuguese coach has managed a number of national teams and leading clubs around the world. His career has given him extensive experience of international football at the highest level, a background the GFA identified as a key reason for agreeing to continue the partnership.
Although his previous contract period has ended, the new agreement means Queiroz will remain responsible for guiding Ghana as the team begins work on the next part of its programme. The arrangement follows discussions between the coach, the football association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The GFA has not yet provided further details about the length or specific terms of Queiroz’s new mandate. It said more information about the agreement, along with details of the Black Stars’ upcoming programme, would be announced in due course.
