Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has left RSC Anderlecht after the club and player agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old was entering the final year of his agreement, which had originally been scheduled to run until the summer of 2027. However, Anderlecht confirmed on Wednesday that the contract had been ended ahead of schedule.
The Belgian club said Ashimeru had not been part of its sporting plans for some time. It added that the agreement would give the midfielder the opportunity to move on and take the next step in his career.
Ashimeru joined Anderlecht in January 2021, initially arriving on loan from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg. His transfer was made permanent later that year, beginning a five-year association with the Brussels-based side.
He made 129 appearances for Anderlecht in all competitions, scoring nine goals and supplying six assists.
His time in Belgium was disrupted by recurring injury problems, while increased competition for places reduced his involvement during the latter part of his spell. In the 2025-26 season, he moved on loan to Belgian club RAAL La Louviere, where he played nine league matches.
Before that temporary move, Ashimeru had been transferred to the RSCA Futures setup. Anderlecht had indicated in 2025 that he was no longer included in the club’s plans.
The end of his contract leaves Ashimeru without a club as he searches for a new challenge and an opportunity to revive his career.
Ashimeru developed at WAFA in Ghana before moving to Europe. He later gained experience with Red Bull Salzburg and several clubs during loan spells, before establishing himself at Anderlecht.
He has also represented Ghana at senior international level.
Ashimeru’s departure brings an end to his time at a club where he made more than 100 appearances, despite the injuries and limited opportunities that affected his later seasons. With his release agreed by both parties, he is now available to pursue the next stage of his career.
