The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has formed a top-tier committee to steer Ghana’s roadmap toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Black Stars secured their place at the tournament.
Officials say the group’s mandate goes beyond ensuring football readiness, emphasizing the opportunity to project Ghana’s cultural identity and unlock economic gains during the global event.
In its official Terms of Reference, the Ministry states that the body has been created “to oversee the nation’s preparations to participate in the Mundial and leverage same for socio-cultural and economic dividends.”
The committee is expected to coordinate every aspect of the country’s involvement and ensure the team’s campaign is better organized than previous editions.
Its objective, as outlined, is “to coordinate affairs and facilitate the preparation and participation of the senior men’s national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and to improve upon their performance from previous editions.”
The group will design a detailed roadmap that covers both sporting and non-sporting activities tied to the event.
Key focus areas include fundraising and sponsorships, team preparation, training camps, friendly matches, publicity campaigns, trade missions, and tourism-related programs.
The Ministry says the committee will collaborate with government agencies and private partners to drive awareness, resource mobilization, and national support for the Black Stars.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams will chair the committee, with membership drawn from major state institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Office of the President, and the Ghana Football Association.
