Ghana have recorded one of the biggest climbs in the latest FIFA world rankings, leaping eight places to 65th after an impressive 2026 World Cup campaign that has revived belief in the Black Stars.
The four-time African champions’ rise is the second-largest jump in the new table, with only Norway improving more after moving up 12 spots. It marks Ghana’s most significant rankings boost in recent years and is being viewed as concrete evidence that the national team is regaining its competitive edge on the global stage.
Under head coach Carlos Queiroz, appointed earlier this year, Ghana delivered a resilient and tactically disciplined World Cup performance in North America that exceeded most pre-tournament expectations.
Exceeding expectations in North America
Drawn in a testing Group L alongside European heavyweights England and Croatia, as well as Panama, Ghana were widely tipped to struggle to progress. Instead, they opened their campaign with a hard-earned victory over Panama, setting an early positive tone.
