Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has made it clear that his team’s main objective is to defeat Hearts of Oak in Sunday’s much-anticipated Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the game, Zito reaffirmed his ambition for the Porcupine Warriors to challenge strongly for the Ghana Premier League title after their early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
“I told them [fans] that our objective is to win the league,” he said.
“Since we are out [of the Confederation Cup], how are we going to be consistent? We go with quality, and we can’t be consistent without qualifying to play [in Africa]. So our objective is to go and beat Hearts of Oak,” he said.
Kotoko were recently eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after a disappointing 6–1 aggregate loss to Wydad Athletic Club in the second round of the preliminary phase.
The setback has shifted the club’s full attention to domestic competition.
The Reds will head into Sunday’s encounter unbeaten, sitting eighth on the league table with three wins and two draws from five matches.
Hearts, meanwhile, occupy fourth position after four wins and four draws in eight outings.
