Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says Sunday’s Super Clash against Hearts of Oak will be a reunion filled with mutual respect but insists his focus is firmly on victory.
Kotoko travel to the Accra Sports Stadium on November 9 to face their archrivals in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Both sides remain unbeaten in the Ghana Premier League, adding extra intensity to the contest.
Reflecting on his past working relationship with Hearts boss Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, Zito fondly recalled their time together at Kotoko, where their collaboration brought success at both senior and youth levels.
“The telepathy between us [me and Didi Dramani] worked a lot because when you look at the result we chalked…it tells you the way we were at that time,” Zito said.
Despite the friendship, Zito was clear about his intentions for the weekend’s showdown. “We are brothers, we talk a lot but…we are going there with the mindset of beating him [Dramani],” he added.
Kotoko currently sit eighth in the league standings after recording three wins and two draws from five games, while Hearts occupy fourth place with four wins and four draws in eight matches.
With both coaches now leading rival clubs, Sunday’s fixture is not just about points but also a battle of old allies turned competitors.
