Veteran sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah has joined the chorus of voices advocating for the inclusion of Asante Kotoko’s midfielder, Richmond Lamptey, in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Yeboah, a well-respected figure in sports journalism, argues that Lamptey deserves a spot on the AFCON roster.
He emphasizes the importance of having the league’s top midfielder represent Ghana on the continental stage, asserting that Lamptey’s skills surpass those of some of the current midfielders in the national team.
Yeboah firmly believes that playing in the domestic league should not be a deterrent to international recognition.
“We cannot go to Cote d’Ivoire leaving the Premier League’s best midfielder behind. It would be an indictment on our league. Besides, Lamptey is better than some of the midfielders in the team. It shouldn’t be a crime for one to play in Ghana,” Yeboah stated, as quoted by ghanasportspage.
It is not known as to when the Black Stars squad will be released.
