Tottenham transfers put Mohammed Kudus’ starting place under pressure

Tottenham Hotspur’s plans to sign Manchester City forwards Savinho and Omar Marmoush could put Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus’ place in the starting XI at risk.

Spurs are targeting the pair as they look to strengthen their attacking options and create greater competition within the squad. Brazilian winger Savinho is expected to cost about £75m plus add-ons, while Egypt forward Marmoush is also valued at a similar figure. Talks are continuing as the club attempts to complete both deals.

Kudus has primarily played on the right wing since joining Tottenham, where his performances and ability to provide important assists have made him a key attacking threat. However, the proposed arrival of Savinho would give head coach Roberto De Zerbi another leading option in that position.

De Zerbi will decide who starts according to performance levels as Tottenham seek greater consistency and look to avoid another relegation battle. Kudus’ versatility could work in his favour. The 25-year-old can operate on either wing, as a number 10 or attacking midfielder, and can also play as a forward when required.

That range of positions means Tottenham could potentially find a way to include Kudus, Savinho and Marmoush in the same starting line-up. Such a combination would depend on the tactical system selected by De Zerbi and how the three attackers complement one another.

Kudus will nevertheless need to work hard to re-establish himself, particularly as he continues to deal with injury issues. If Tottenham complete the two proposed signings, competition for places in the attacking positions is likely to be intense.

The Ghanaian has spent much of the off-season undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation programme after being sidelined during the second half of the 2025/26 season. His absence was a significant setback for both Tottenham and Ghana, with Kudus unable to recover in time to take part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Recent training updates from Tottenham have provided a more positive indication of his progress. Kudus is back on the pitch and working towards full fitness ahead of the new campaign, taking part in individual drills and rehabilitation exercises designed to rebuild his strength and prepare him for competitive football.

The 2026/27 season could therefore represent a new beginning for Kudus. He will be aiming to rediscover his best form and become an important part of Tottenham’s plans, although the possible arrival of Savinho and Marmoush means his route back into the starting team may be more difficult.

Savinho’s projected fee of about £75m plus add-ons and Marmoush’s similar valuation underline Tottenham’s intention to invest heavily in attack. Their arrival would not necessarily end Kudus’ involvement, but it would give De Zerbi significantly more choices when selecting his forward line.

In related Ghanaian football news, the Ghana Football Association has announced a full list of financial rewards, including cash and vehicles. Benjamin Asare has also received a $38,000 car in recognition of his outstanding performance for the Black Stars.
