The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has disclosed that he did not give authorization for the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium in December 2023.

The Stadium was closed by the National Sports Authority (NSA) during last year’s Christmas period to allow the hosting of musical shows.

The decision was taken by NSA boss Prof. Peter Twumasi at a time the Ghana Premier League was ongoing and several clubs were using the Accra Sports Stadium for their home matches.

Facing the Public Accounts Committee today, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif stressed that he did not authorize the decision to shut Accra Sports Stadium to football clubs.

According to him, he is particularly concerned about the decision knowing that hosting musical concerts at the stadium has damaging implications to the pitch.

The Sports Minister further disclosed that he has engaged NSA boss Prof. Peter Twumasi on the closure of the Stadium to decide on the best practice going forward.
