Hohoe United have expressed strong dissatisfaction with sanctions handed down by the Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee following incidents during their league fixture against Vision FC.
The ruling by the disciplinary body resulted in a three-match home ban for the club along with a fine of GH¢30,000.
The punishment was issued after the association determined that Hohoe United breached several regulations during the Ghana Premier League match played last month.
According to the decision, the club was found responsible for lapses related to matchday security and crowd control.
The governing body stated that Hohoe United did not adequately protect match officials and allowed individuals without authorization to gain access to restricted areas around the pitch.
The investigation also concluded that the club failed to control sections of its supporters after objects were thrown onto the playing field during the game.
Such actions are considered serious violations under the rules governing the Ghana Premier League because they can threaten the safety of officials, players, and spectators.
As part of the disciplinary measures, Hohoe United will not be allowed to host their next three league matches at their usual home ground.
The suspension is effective immediately. In addition, the club has been instructed to pay the GH¢30,000 fine within 14 days after receiving official communication from the Ghana Football Association.
The GFA also issued a warning to the club, indicating that any similar misconduct in the future could attract more severe disciplinary consequences.
However, officials of Hohoe United believe the decision does not fairly reflect the situation and argue that the sanctions imposed are excessive.
The club’s Communications Director, Kenneth Asante, criticised the ruling while speaking about the matter.
“Before this sanction, we had pleaded not guilty on all the charges labeled against us. We proved that we are innocent, but were still hit with these sanctions.
“Truth be told, the three-match home ban and the GHC 30,000 fine imposed on us are too harsh,” he said.
He further explained that the club finds the punishment difficult to accept, particularly because of their current situation in the league standings.
“In fact, we are not comfortable with the ban, especially considering our position on the league log,” he added.
The decision comes at a challenging time for Hohoe United, who are currently fighting to maintain their status in the top tier of Ghanaian football.
Although the team has managed to win three of its last four matches, they remain only two points above the relegation zone.
Because of the home ban, Hohoe United will now be forced to stage their next three home fixtures at alternative venues. Those matches are scheduled against Dreams FC, Bechem United and Berekum Chelsea.
The club is now reviewing its options and may decide to challenge the ruling through the appropriate appeal process.
With the league campaign approaching its final stages, Hohoe United must now deal with the impact of the sanctions while continuing their efforts to secure enough points to stay in the Ghana Premier League.
