San Diego FC have opted to keep faith with Ghanaian attacker Emmanuel “Ema” Boateng by renewing his contract ahead of the 2026 Major League Soccer season.

The agreement secures the winger’s services for next year, with an additional option that runs until June 2027.

Boateng’s extension follows his strong contribution to the club’s historic first campaign in MLS, which ended with a run to the Western Conference final. Entering what will be his tenth season in the American top flight, the former Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy man remains one of the league’s most experienced wide players.

His influence goes beyond minutes played, with San Diego valuing his leadership and professionalism within the squad. Club Sporting Director Tyler Heaps highlighted those qualities while explaining the decision to retain him.

“Ema brings invaluable experience, professionalism, and consistency to our group,” said Heaps.

“His commitment to the Club, his teammates, and our values is evident every day, and we are happy to continue this journey with him as we build toward the future.”

Boateng featured 15 times for San Diego last season, finding the net once in league action.
