Newcastle miss out as Aston Villa strike Diego Carlos deal

Newcastle miss out as Aston Villa strike a deal for 3rd summer signing

Premier League outfit Aston Villa have, on Thursday, beaten out the competition to strike yet another impressive deal ahead of the summer transfer window.

The latest player set take his talents to Villa Park? Diego Carlos.

Brazilian stopper Carlos has long been tipped for a move to England, with Newcastle United, after seeing their efforts to strike a deal with Sevilla during the January transfer window shot down, having been tipped to reignite their pursuit as recently as today.

Recent days, however, had seen it widely reported that the Magpies had been joined in the race for the 29-year-old by Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

And, as alluded to above, the Claret and Blue, on Thursday, have swooped decisively.

As confirmed in an official statement across the club’s social media platforms, Aston Villa have ‘reached an agreement with Sevilla or the transfer of Diego Carlos’.

The move, it is understood, will set the midlands outfit back a sum in the region of £26 million, with Carlos set to travel to England before the day is out to undergo his medical and finalise the personal terms of a contract.

Kamara amongst arrivals

Their sealed deal for Carlos, of course, adds ever further to what has proven an altogether head-turning start to the club’s summer recruitment drive on the part of Aston Villa.

This comes with Steven Gerrard and co, just days ago, having too announced an agreement for soon-to-be free agent Boubacar Kamara.

Not only that, but the Villans have also opted to make Philippe Coutinho’s loan arrival from Barcelona permanent, as those in a position of power at Villa Park make crystal clear that they are not prepared to rest on their laurels on the back of a statement window in the summer of 2021.
