Mohamed Salah has officially completed his transfer to Trabzonspor, with the Egypt international signing a two-year contract with the Turkish club and agreeing a reported annual salary of €17m.
Salah’s move was completed on Wednesday, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the forward’s career after his departure from Liverpool at the end of last season.
According to Turkish newspaper AKSAM, the agreement also contains a significant commercial clause. Salah is entitled to 20% of the revenue generated from Trabzonspor products carrying his name or image.
The arrangement gives Salah a direct share of the income from merchandise associated with him, in addition to his salary during his two-year stay at the club.
The transfer makes Trabzonspor the seventh club of Salah’s senior career. Before arriving in Turkey, he represented El Mokawloon El Arab, Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool.
His time at Liverpool ended after nine years at Anfield, a period in which he established himself as one of the club’s most influential players and collected a series of individual and team achievements.
Salah’s departure from Liverpool came at the conclusion of the previous season, bringing an end to a long spell in England. He will now continue his career in the Turkish Super Lig with Trabzonspor.
The Egyptian had also opened discussions with Besiktas earlier in the current summer transfer window. However, those negotiations did not lead to a move after the two parties failed to reach an agreement over the financial terms of the proposed contract.
Instead, Salah has completed his transfer to Trabzonspor on an agreement that runs for two years and includes the reported merchandise-revenue provision.
The details published by AKSAM make the commercial element of the contract particularly notable. Alongside the €17m annual salary, the 20% share gives Salah a defined financial interest in the sale of club products featuring his name or image.
Trabzonspor will therefore become the latest stage in a career that has taken Salah from Egypt to Switzerland, England and Italy before his long spell with Liverpool. His route to the Turkish club has included seven senior teams, with the move following the breakdown of talks with Besiktas over financial matters.
Salah’s arrival brings his Liverpool tenure to a close and confirms his next destination after the conclusion of last season. He is now set to begin his Trabzonspor career under a contract lasting until the end of the agreed two-year term.
