Ghana defender Kojo Oppong Peprah says advice from Black Stars team-mate Alexander Djiku played an important part in his decision to join Fenerbahce.
The 22-year-old has moved to the Istanbul-based club from French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice in a €12m transfer. He has signed a four-year contract with the Turkish Super League giants.
Peprah said Djiku’s experience of playing for Fenerbahce gave him a positive impression of the club before he completed the move.
“I spoke with Alexander Djiku. Hearing nice things from someone who played here had an impact on my transfer,” Peprah said at his unveiling.
Djiku spent two seasons with Fenerbahce before leaving to join Russian club Spartak Moscow. His account of life at the Istanbul club helped persuade Peprah that the transfer was the right step in his career.
Peprah joins Fenerbahce after playing for OGC Nice during the 2025-26 campaign. The centre-back is expected to add to the club’s defensive options ahead of the new season.
His move to Turkey follows a 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with Ghana in which he made two appearances. Peprah was involved in the Black Stars’ goalless draw against England, producing an important headed clearance to help preserve the result.
The transfer also makes Peprah the latest Ghanaian player to represent Fenerbahce. He follows former Black Stars players Stephen Appiah, Sam Johnson, Andre Ayew and Djiku in playing for the club.
Peprah’s arrival gives Fenerbahce another Ghana international in its squad and reunites him at club level with a side that has already provided a route to Turkish football for several of his compatriots.
Djiku’s influence was particularly significant because of his recent experience at Fenerbahce. Peprah’s comments suggest that the former club defender was able to offer insight into the club before the younger Ghanaian finalised his move.
The defender’s transfer comes after a season in France and a World Cup appearance for Ghana, while Fenerbahce prepare for the new campaign with the aim of strengthening their squad.
Peprah was formally presented by the Istanbul club after completing the €12m move from OGC Nice. His long-term contract runs for four years, and he will now compete for a place in Fenerbahce’s defence.
The Ghanaian is the latest player from the Black Stars set-up to take up the opportunity to play for the Turkish club, continuing a link that includes Appiah, Johnson, Ayew and Djiku.
