Kofi Adams urges US, Mexico, Canada to ease travel rules for Ghanaian World Cup fans

Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, is calling on the host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to make it easier for fans to attend the tournament.

The 48-team event, co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, kicks off on June 11, 2026, welcoming supporters from across the globe.

Adams highlighted that standard visa requirements, which often demand proof of property ownership, marital status, or financial documents, could prevent ordinary fans from attending.

“I may be a sports fan and may not have any tie to anybody [no marriage, no kids], does that mean I shouldn’t go and watch the World Cup?” he questioned.

He emphasized that the host countries should consider the spirit of recreation and the rights of people, arguing that certain restrictions should be eased to allow more fans to experience the event.

“America believes in recreation and the rights of persons, so you cannot continue to put so much restriction on people who want to go and watch the World Cup.

Ghana will open its World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
