Ghana Premier League outfit Karela United Football have refuted reports claiming that the team owes its players salaries for a period of five to nine months.
According to Sey Mubarick, the club’s Public Relations Officer, the actual debt is approximately three months’ worth of salaries, contrary to the figures circulating in the media.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Mubarick clarified that the misinformation originated from players who are no longer with the club and were not registered for the current season.
“The story making waves in the media is coming from players the club has decided to move on from and did not register,” Mubarak told Asempa FM.
“Quotes about the club owing players for about 5 to 9 months are not true. From the start of the season until June, no player is owed salary.
“What the club owes is from the end of the season until now, which is for about three months. That is what I know, and that is what is really confirmed: we owe the players, and some bonuses are included.”
Karela United set to begin its new Ghana Premier League campaign on Sunday with a home match against Asante Kotoko in Nalerigu.
