Jordan Ayew, responsible for scoring 4 of Ghana’s 6 goals during the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying games in June’s International’s, has a herculean task on hand in producing the goods for Crystal Palace in the team’s opening game of the 2024/25 Premier league season against London rivals, Brentford.
Ayew flourished immensely under former manager Roy Hodgson, but has been limited to bench cameos under new manager Oliver Glasner.
Although Glasner, who was formerly in the dugout for Eintracht Frankfurt, has laid a marker at Palace with a new sense of belief, intricate passing and movement, as well as eye catching football, coupled with goals, Ayew is yet to be an integral member of the team.
The limited appearances by the Ghanaian, somewhat, suggest he is seen as more of a squad player than a constant feature in the starting lineup.
Regardless of this, Ayew has proven his ability to affect a game as a substitute, with the latest evidence coming in Ghana’s 2-1 win over Mali as Ayew pounced on a poor clearance to get Ghana a crucial win.
Palace will rely on the services of Jordan, who scored 4 goals in the league season, but it remains to be seen if the forward will be able to leapfrog the red-hot Mateta in the starting XI.
