Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah has disclosed he had a “chip on his shoulder” following his brace against Chelsea where it all began as a young footballer.
Nketiah scored twice to ensure Gunners emphatically to claim the three points at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Arsenal had lost their last three league matches on the trot which had a dent on their top four hopes but they produced an impressive display to see off the European champions at their own backyard.
Nketiah scored the opening goal of the match and also got Arsenal’s their third, which put them back in front after Chelsea had comeback twice to draw level.
The 22-year-old spent seven years at Chelsea as a young footballer from 2008 before he was released in July 2015 to join Arsenal on a free transfer.
“I think it makes that bit more special, I was here up until U14s and then got let go so you always have that chip on your shoulder to come and prove yourself. But today isn’t about me, it is good I got two goals, but it is about the team and bouncing back.” Nketiah told Sky Sports.
“I think it gives us confidence, we’ve all stuck together through the difficult times. We’ve showed that we can bounce back from setbacks.
“Today is a great result, it is always nice winning a derby and we’re just looking to push on and hopefully keep getting three points to climb up the table.” He added.
Wednesday’s vital victory at the Bridge now sees Mikel Arteta’s side are levelled on points with North London rivals Tottenham on the premiership standings after 31 games each.
