Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu believes Ghana can still make a strong impression at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite being drawn in what many consider a tough group.
Ghana will face England, Croatia and Panama in Group L all three nations ranked inside the top 30 in the latest FIFA rankings but Badu insists the Black Stars should not be written off.
Speaking ahead of the June 17th game he recalled Ghana’s resilience at past tournaments, especially the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
“Whatever it is, you will meet big teams because of the pot you’re in. So you need to prepare for everyone,” he said.
“People ask if Ghana has a shot against these teams ; listen, in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil there was a lot of controversy and agitation, but Germany beat mighty Brazil 7-1. We were the only team that dealt with them.”
Badu reiterated that Ghana’s chances will depend largely on preparation and player fitness.
“It depends on your preparation. Ghana ha“I’m very optimistic we can do well” – Badu on Ghana’s ‘difficult’ groups the quality. If we get our players in good form and without injuries, whoever comes, I’m optimistic we can do well. That’s why I say it’s manageable.”
The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama as preparations intensify ahead of next year’s global showpiece.
