Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Mark Addo, has dismissed suggestions that Ghana football is in decline following a sold-out President’s Cup clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
The Accra Sports Stadium was packed on Sunday as the two traditional rivals faced off, with Kotoko securing a 2-1 win to lift their record-extending ninth President’s Cup title.
Speaking after the game, Mark Addo praised the turnout and dismissed the growing perception that local football has lost its appeal.
“The President’s Cup went extremely well,” he told 3sports.
“From the look of things, people still like watching good football, as displayed in the Kotoko-Hearts encounter. For me, the notion that our football is dead has been quashed,” he said.
He also praised the conclusion of the 2024/25 season and expressed optimism about the new campaign, which kicks off in September.
“Overall, we’ve concluded the season well and are looking forward to the new season,” he added.
