FC Samartex and Nsoatreman FC are set to receive a financial boost as they embark on their CAF inter-club competitions journey.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has introduced a new initiative, providing $50,000 to each team participating in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
This move is part of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s vision to enhance African club competitions by extending financial benefits to a broader range of teams.
Previously, only teams that advanced to the group stages were eligible for monetary rewards.
FC Samartex, the reigning Ghana Premier League champions, will face Cameroonian club Victoria FC in the CAF Champions League, while Nsoatreman FC, the FA Cup champions, will take on Chadian side Elect Sport FC in the CAF Confederation Cup.
This increased financial investment by CAF aims to motivate more clubs to participate in continental tournaments, ultimately elevating the standard of football across Africa.
Winners of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup now receive $4 million and $2 million, respectively.
