Benedicte Simon made a sparkling debut for the Black Queens, starting in Ghana’s 2-0 loss to England in a historic friendly at St Mary’s Stadium.
The defender, who has played for top European clubs like PSG, Juventus, and Atlético Madrid, was handed her maiden cap by head coach Kim Lars Björkegren.
Simon, a French-Ghanaian, described her debut as a dream come true, saying, “I called my mother immediately… I was so happy.” She praised her teammates, saying they’re “so nice” and the team has a great atmosphere.
With her experience and versatility, Simon is expected to strengthen Ghana’s defense as they prepare for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Her addition injects fresh quality into the Black Queens squad, which is eager to make a mark on the global stage.
