The Upper West Regional Football Association has opened discussions with the Ghana Education Service to introduce the Football for Girls initiative in the region.

Regional FA Chairman Alhaji Sadugu Yahaya, together with the Women’s Representative and GFA Women’s Football Development Manager Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, met the Regional Director of GES on Monday, December 8, 2025.

The visit was aimed at formally presenting the programme, which targets girls aged 6 to 12 and encourages early participation in football.

During the meeting, the Regional Chairman outlined the objectives behind the initiative and highlighted its focus on nurturing young talent in a structured environment.

Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong emphasised that the project supports the broader vision of GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and the Executive Council to strengthen the women’s game across the country.

She noted that a development pathway has already been created to ensure consistent growth for girls’ football at the grassroots.

Sarpong also stressed that the programme is a joint venture between the GFA and the GES, with primary schools serving as the starting point for football education, confidence building and greater female participation.

The engagement represents a key move toward expanding opportunities for young girls in the Upper West Region to learn, play and develop through football.
