A public appeal has been made to GCB Bank to repair or clarify the status of an ATM on Graphic Road at Adabraka in Accra, which has reportedly been out of service for more than three months.
The machine is positioned between Accra Brewery and the Graphic Communication Group head offices, making it a useful facility for people who work or conduct business in that part of the city.
Its prolonged closure has raised questions over whether GCB Bank intends to restore the ATM or has decided to permanently decommission it. No explanation for the machine’s continued unavailability is given in the appeal.
The loss of the facility has also become more inconvenient because the nearest alternative, the GCB branch close to the Farisco traffic light, has recently closed. That branch was formerly occupied by UT Bank.
Customers who now need to withdraw cash are left with two stated alternatives: the Republic House branch, opposite the Cocoa House, or another GCB Bank branch on Kojo Thompson Road.
However, both options present difficulties. The Kojo Thompson Road branch does not have a car park for customers, while heavy vehicular congestion in that part of Accra makes travelling there to withdraw cash inconvenient.
The appeal calls on GCB Bank’s management to return the Graphic Road ATM to service, rather than leaving residents, workers and other customers dependent on more distant facilities.
“I, therefore, plead with the management of GCB to make their ATM on the Graphic Road functional.”
