A three-vehicle accident has blocked the Birimso section of the Accra-Kumasi N6 highway, causing a significant build-up of traffic in the area.
The crash involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck and a sedan, according to police.
The collision has left traffic unable to move normally through the Birimso stretch of the highway, with vehicles backing up around the scene. Police have described the resulting congestion as a pile-up of traffic following the accident.
The Eastern South Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi is at the scene managing the situation and directing motorists away from the affected section.
Traffic diversions have been put in place in both directions on the route. Motorists travelling towards Accra are being diverted through Kibi at Nsutam, while those heading towards Kumasi are being redirected at Apedwa.
The temporary arrangements are in operation today, 3 August 2026, as police work to manage the blockage caused by the accident.
Drivers using the Accra-Kumasi N6 highway have therefore been directed away from the Birimso section through the two designated diversion points. Accra-bound traffic is being handled at Nsutam through Kibi, while Kumasi-bound traffic is being diverted at Apedwa.
