Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei says his team is determined to make a strong statement at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship, following their disappointing AFCON exit and failure to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup.

The Black Satellites begin their campaign on Thursday, July 10, against rivals Nigeria at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Ofei says the team is motivated by past setbacks.

“We still have something to prove, especially after our exit from the AFCON and our inability to qualify for the World Cup,” he said. “We need to prove to the nation that the squad is a very good team.”

With home advantage and strong preparation, Ghana are focused on showing their quality rather than fearing any opponent.

“As a host nation, we don’t care who we meet. We just have to show quality, and I’m pretty sure our boys are ready to fight,” he added.

Group A features just three teams ; Ghana, Nigeria, and Benin making every match crucial for a place in the semifinals and a shot at the next U20 AFCON.
