2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Red-hot Bernard Tekpetey fails to make Ghana’s final squad

In-form Bernard Tekpetey has failed to make Ghana’s final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations again despite his rich vein of form for club side Ludogorets Razgrad.

He was named in the 55-man provisional squad that was released two weeks ago.

The 26-year-old forward’s performances has not been rewarded with national team call ups, with many questioning his regular exclusions.

Hughton named the squad on Monday morning without Tekpetey in the team.

This season, the former Schalke player has featured in 32 games in all competitions and scored 11 goals.

There are also notable absentees like Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

Ghana is set to open their group stage campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 – that is in 13 days.

The Black Stars will then play against record champions Egypt in their second group match against Egypt in four days before wrapping up the group face against Mozambique on January 22.

By January 2024, it will be 42 years since Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982.
