Real Tamale United revived their X1 Energy Drink DOL Super Cup campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Debibi United in Group A at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
The result was an emphatic response to Real Tamale United’s opening match, in which they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat by Ebusua Dwarfs. It also gives the Pride of the North three points from their first two games and moves them level with Ebusua Dwarfs, who still have a match in hand.
Abdul Rahim Lamale set Real Tamale United on their way inside the opening three minutes. The early goal gave them a strong start and put Debibi United under immediate pressure.
Real Tamale United extended their advantage in the 25th minute when Emmanuel Owusu found the net. Owusu’s goal gave RTU a 2-0 lead, which they carried into half-time.
Debibi United responded after the interval and made the closing stages more competitive when Leslie Aryeetey reduced the deficit in the 74th minute. His goal gave Debibi United hope of completing a comeback and ensured Real Tamale United faced a period of pressure with the match still in the balance.
That prospect was quickly checked when Rahim Akanta converted a penalty in the 81st minute. The spot-kick restored Real Tamale United’s two-goal advantage and also gave Akanta his second goal of the tournament.
RTU then added a fourth goal late in the game to complete a comprehensive 4-1 win. The victory puts their Group A campaign back on track after their difficult opening result against Ebusua Dwarfs.
Real Tamale United now have three points, the same total as Ebusua Dwarfs, although Ebusua Dwarfs have played one match fewer. Debibi United remain on one point after two matches.
The outcome leaves Real Tamale United with a significant improvement in both confidence and goal difference following their first-round defeat. Their four-goal return against Debibi United matched the number they scored across the opening two Group A fixtures in total, while the victory ensured their tournament challenge did not suffer a second successive setback.
Debibi United, meanwhile, were unable to build on their one-point start and remain on one point after their second match. Real Tamale United’s next position in the group will depend on the outcome of Ebusua Dwarfs’ game in hand, but RTU have placed themselves back among the teams competing for progress in Group A.
