What is the logic in closing down stadium for concerts – Togbe Afede

The closure of the Accra Sports Stadium for December Christmas concerts has sparked a heated response from Togbe Afede, the influential patron of Accra Hearts of Oak.

Accra Hearts of Oak, currently making the Accra Sports Stadium their home base in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League, had to unexpectedly relocate their games to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi due to the decision by the National Sports Authority.

Expressing his discontent, Togbe Afede, who also serves as the financial backbone for Accra Hearts of Oak, has publicly criticized the National Sports Authority for what he deems as an illogical move.

The closure not only impacts the footballing aspect but has a ripple effect on other clubs relying on the Accra Sports Stadium. These clubs are now forced to seek alternative venues, with some relocating their games to the WAFA Park in Sogakope and other locations.

“Somebody wakes up and suddenly close up a sports stadium for concerts what kind of reason is this,” he said

“Seriously he close down a sports stadium to favour concerts to raise money to maintain the stadium.

“You raise the money to maintain the stadium for what event sports or more concerts what is the logic here,”
