United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann seeking to convert Ghanaian midfielder Kwadwo Poku who is yearning for Black Stars call-up

United States of America coach Jurgen Klinsmann has set his sights on luring Ghana-born attacking midfielder Kwadwo Poku to play for his Yankees side.

The 23-year-old has drawn raving reviews across the Major League Soccer with his impressive form New York City FC and United States head coach Klinsmann has firmly fixed his sights on convincing the Kumasi-born midfielder to commit his international future to the Americans.

However Poku has told Accra-based Happy FM he is looking forward to a call-up from Avram Grant to feature for his country of birth.

“I’m a Ghanaian and I’m waiting for a call-up and once it comes, I will honour it fully,” he said in an interview after netting a brace against Columbus Crew last week.

Klinsmann has already capped two players of Ghanaian descent in his Yankees squad since taking charge of the side. Borussia Dortmund’s Joseph Claude-Gyau and LA Galaxy’s Gyasi Zardes have all been capped by the former German international.

The 51-year-old gaffer has monitored the performance of Poku and is convinced he can bring unique diversity and flair into his attacking midfield options.

Klinsmann is not particularly keen on goals from Poku who had netted four (4) times in 18 games for New York City FC but his rate of assists has distinguished him from any other MLS player.

Poku has set a record of becoming the player of the most assists (10) as a substitute and has been able to hold down a place regular spot in a highly competitive midfield dominated by Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard
