UEFA Nation’s League: Foden doubtful for Hungary clash due to illness

Phil Foden has been ruled out of Saturday’s UEFA Nations League opener against Hungary due to sickness.

The Magyars will be the first opponents for Gareth Southgate’s team in League A Group 3 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, before meeting Germany and Italy in the coming days.

Foden was a strong contender to play on the left flank on Saturday evening, but England has announced that the 22-year-old was forced to skip Friday’s training session due to illness.

The day before the game, defenders Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori were also confined to indoor training programs, with Southgate expected to deliver an update in his pre-game press conference.

Foden joined the England team following a season in which he scored 14 goals and added 11 assists in 45 games for Man City, as well as two goals and six assists in 15 appearances for England.

Southgate has already lost Ben White to injury ahead of the first of four Nations League games this month, with Hungary also scheduled to visit Wembley on June 14.
