Arsenal v Bayern Munich
Champions League at the Emirates Stadium, London
TNT Sports 1, Tuesday, 8:00pm

When you reach the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League every single game becomes a potential classic and Arsenal v Bayern Munich has that feel to it. These teams need no introduction.

The Gunners are battling for the Premier League trophy while Bayern, a true blue chip European giant are having to make do with second place, but can save their season with another Champions League title. There’s another narrative surrounding this game too, the return of a certain Harry Kane to North London to face his former rivals. Games don’t get much bigger than this.

Arsenal to Win

It’s dangerous to talk about teams definitely winning when you reach this stage of the Champions League. This is the time when the very best players stand up and do their talking and when experience, of which Bayern Munich have plenty, comes to the fore. That said, Arsenal are simply a better team right now and that should mean they win this game.

Bayern can still score goals. They may be 16 points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga but they’re scored 11 more goals than anyone. The issue is 36 goals against and you’d have to go down to seventh place Augsburg to find a team who have conceded more. It’s quite unlike a Thomas Tuchel side and given they’ve conceded in their last 10 league games, you can’t look beyond Arsenal here.

Bukayo Saka to Score or Assist

This season we’ve seen Bukayo Saka really elevate his game. He’s now one of the very best players on the planet and with 14 goals and eight assists in 29 Premier League games, he’s becoming a key contributor too.

With Bayern’s defence, they’ve got a real issue on their hands with Saka. With his pace and guile, he’s very likely to find opportunities to get into dangerous positions from which he can either score or set up a teammate.

He’s averaged a goal contribution per game in the Champions League so far, with three goals and four assists in seven games, and comes into this on the back of scoring against Brighton.

Harry Kane to Score

With Harry Kane returning to North London we were always going to include a leg around him, weren’t we? For all the social media talk about a Spurs curse on Bayern Munich, the issues in the team haven’t been down to Kane. He’s averaging over a goal per game for his new team.

So far this season the 30-year-old has scored 32 in 28 Bundesliga games, six in eight Champions League games, and has seven goals (plus two assists) over his past five games. As good as Arsenal are defensively we’ve seen that this Bayern team are more than capable of feeding Kane and he should be able to get chances.

Harry Kane to be Fouled 1 or more times

There’s nothing Arsenal fans would like more than somebody giving Kane a boot and there’s a very good chance it could happen. He’s the danger man for Bayern Munich and Arsenal know they need to keep him away from goal or he could be the difference maker.

He’s been fouled 1.3 times per game in the Bundesliga this season and that’s risen to 1.4 times per game in Europe. We are more than likely to see the former Tottenham game get fouled on Tuesday, much to the home fan’s delight.

Eric Dier to Commit 1 or more Fouls

It’s not just Kane returning to North London but also Eric Dier. Since moving to Bayern at the end of the transfer window he’s played 10 games, eight from the start, and should feature on Tuesday.

Against a front three that will include Saka and Gabriel Jesus, there will be plenty of direct running and movement to cause Dier issues if he starts. If he was to start on the bench then that just means he comes on, even hungrier to make a statement, and would likely be more reckless in challenges.
