Sunderland are willing to sell goalkeeper Anthony Patterson should a sizeable offer come in this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Attracting interest

The Sun have reported that Premier League duo Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both monitoring the 22-year-old after establishing himself in the Championship.

The Black Cats shot-stopper is expected to be the subject of an offer with the Foxes preparing an official bid, and it’s believed that a sum of approximately £10m would be enough to prise him away.

The Latest: Sunderland open to sale?

According to Football League World, Sunderland are ‘expecting further interest’ in Patterson and are open to selling him ‘at the right price’ this summer.

Everton are also ‘keen’ on the 6 foot 2 colossus, with Sean Dyche’s outfit ‘one to keep an eye on’.

The Verdict: Offer improved terms

Patterson was recently named the North East Footballer Writers’ Association Young Footballer of the Year and Sunderland should offer him improved terms to fend off interest, not cash in at the first opportunity.

The North Shields-born talent currently ranks in the 94th percentile amongst goalkeepers for penalty saves and in the 93rd for crosses stopped, not to mention that he’s kept ten clean sheets this season (FBRef).

The Stadium of Light keeper also averages 5.7 successful long balls per league game showing that he’s just as keen to contribute to his side’s success in the final third.

Patterson has been hailed for his ‘top-class’ reactions and ‘absolutely sensational’ saves by journalist Josh Bunting so the northeast outfit need to do everything they can to keep hold of their number one beyond this summer, regardless of if they go up or not.
