Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, is poised to take on a significant role at Hearts of Oak, the Ghanaian football club, after the announcement of the dissolution of the current board.
Hearts of Oak have announced this development on their social media platforms on Tuesday, marking the end of a 12-year tenure for the outgoing board.
The process of establishing a new board is underway, and the names of the new board members are expected to be officially unveiled at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March 2024.
As part of the anticipated changes, Stephen Appiah, a former player for Hearts of Oak, is expected to make a return to the club in a capacity yet to be revealed.
Appiah, who is now 43, had a notable stint with the Phobian Club, featuring in 21 matches and scoring 19 goals between 1995 and 1997.
Renowned for his leadership qualities, he later served as the manager of the Ghana national team, popularly known as the Black Stars, guiding them to qualify for the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups held in Germany and South Africa, respectively.
Appiah brings a wealth of experience and expertise, having also held various other roles in the football fraternity.
Under the auspices of the dissolved board, Hearts of Oak annexed the Premier League, two FA Cups, Super Cup and the President’s Cup.
