Sports Minister reveals targets set for Black Stars coach Chris Hughton

Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has thrown light on targets set for Chris Hughton as Black Stars coach.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion boss penned down a 21-month contract with the Ghana Football Association after Otto Addo stepped down from the job in December.

According to Mustapha Ussif, Ghana FA has tasked Hughton with leading the Black Stars to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and the next World Cup edition.

“The objectives are set by the FA for him to ensure that we qualify for AFCON and also to ensure that we identify local talents from our league,’ said Ussif.

“To also ensure that we qualify for the World Cup and also to make sure that our ranking in the FIFA Ranking improves.”

Hughton commenced his Black Stars job pocketing a 2-1 on aggregate in a double-header against Angola.

His next assignment is in June against Central African Republic which is another phase of the AFCON qualifiers .
