Hearts of Oak deemed Botchway surplus to requirements and released him, but he was later recalled. The Phobians stated that Botchway will train with them until he finds a new club.
Botchway is Samartex’s eighth signing, joining former Hearts of Oak defender Larry Sumaila Ibrahim, Richard Baidoo, Kofi Baah, Emmanuel Acquah, Emmanuel Keyekeh, Gabriel Bonnah, and Seidu Abubakar.
FC Samartex are hoping to keep their Premier League status after achieving historic promotion to the top flight.
Botchway moved to Hearts of Oak on a free transfer in 2020. He was without a club at the time because he had left Liberty Professionals.
In the 2021/22 season, he helped Hearts of Oak win the domestic treble (Ghana Premier League, FA Cup, and Ghanaian Super Cup). Botchway was instrumental in the club retaining the FA Cup last season.
