Ghanaian midfielder Raymond Asante will have the chance to feature in European football next season after Sporting Charleroi clinched a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Charleroi booked their place with a 2-1 win over Antwerp last Thursday, topping the playoffs table with 40 points—seven more than closest challengers Westerlo.
Though Asante did not feature in the final match, the 21-year-old played a supporting role throughout the campaign and is expected to be rewarded with an extended stay.
He joined the Belgian side at the start of the season on loan from Italian club Udinese, where he had impressed at youth level.
His time at Charleroi has been marked by steady progress, as he adapts to senior-level European competition.
The youngster’s technical ability and work rate have reportedly caught the attention of the coaching staff, who are keen to monitor his development.
Earning European football marks a key milestone for both Charleroi and Asante, as they look ahead to next season with renewed ambition.
